The Marvin E. Holmes Entrepreneurial Scholarship was established to honor the memory of an entrepreneur who was committed for more than 20 years to helping and inspiring youths in Columbia, Mo. The $500 scholarship is designated for minority seniors of color at Columbia’s David H. Hickman High School who are entering their freshman year at an accredited (not for profit) two- or four-year university, college or vocational/technical institute.
Interested applicants must be running their own small business or show a demonstrated interest in entrepreneurship.
Consideration is given to students based on:
- Academic performance
- Leadership and participation in school and community activities
- Work experience.
Applicants must submit:
- A detailed business plan demonstrating a clear business idea
- Two letters of recommendation
- A 500-word essay on why he or she wants to be an entrepreneur
- An official transcript.
